New Season, Another Win!
Hey there hockey fans! The Gobblers win the opening game of the season 3-2 against the new Orange team. It was a good battle back and forth with some nail-biting action. There were a lot of penalty and one of our players even got ejected from the game. No points for me, although I sat for a couple of minutes in the penalty box for an accidental trip; at least I got on the score sheet! It was a nice way to start the season and with new owners and a new structure that leads to playoffs, a win is exactly what you want to get on the first game. The next game will be on Thursday against the Yellow team at 7:50pm. Feel free to attend as the Yellow team is always an interesting opponent.

Where do you play?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the question. I play at the Las Vegas Ice Center. There are two ice rinks in town for adult hockey: LV Ice Center and the Sobe Ice Arena. The Ice Center is located at: 9295 W. Flamingo Rd., Suite 130, Las Vegas, NV 89147. I can link the website here as well. They have public skating and many other programs for all type of ice based sports. It's a great place to cool down during the summer as well. Let me know if you have any other questions.

how long have you been playing?
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comments and questions. I have been playing for about a year now, although I used to play street hockey about 15 years ago. I decided to get back into hockey for exercise and to get back into shape. Its a great way to burn some calories off as it is about a 800-1000 calorie burner. This is definitely something that I will never stop doing. It is one of the few things I look forward to every week. Again, thanks for the comment and feel free to ask any other questions you mat have.
DeleteHey David,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your response. I do have another question - but I couldn't reply to your reply my reply :). Anyway - so this place does adult hockey instruction? I would love to learn and I can skate (sort of) but I'm fearless and tenacious! You learned late in life as well, right? Can you speak to what that process was like?
Amelia,
DeleteThey have limited instruction really. Although the occasional camp comes up from time to time. They did have a basic class a while back but as far as I know that is no longer in progress. The best advice I can give is to skate with hockey skates to get a feel then look for "Stick and Puck" times. Stick and Puck sessions are practice and free ice time where you can try new things, learn, and practice with many other players all in the actual hockey gear. There is a difference with the gear on and can surprise you. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I once took my wife to a session and she enjoyed it although never really got the hockey fever like I did. The next step would be to be to try an open hockey session. This simulates an actual game and will give you the best reality as far as an actual league game. I have not checked the Sobe Ice Arena for training but I know that they have adult hockey there as well. Hope that helps and any other questions are welcome.
